I
met AIR because someone invited me to one of their concerts. I had
no idea what kind of music I would be listening to, but I ended
up at the show. It was a very strange experience at first, because
I wasn't expecting their take on tempo. Then I told myself that
this music was perfectly suited for something very specific: reading
aloud. I felt that way because their notion of tempo was common
to both music and reading, with a sort of strength in the tempo,
a calm intensity. That's what gave me the absurd idea of joining
together music and the very fragile act of reading.
And I started
my search.
These three
stories are westerns. Linking them to music seemed fairly easy,
especially with AIR's music, which has an epic dimension, a sense
of spaciousness, of something far away. That's what suddenly made
me realize that their music touches the very essence of the western.
In terms of
the overall style, it was a bit of a leap, since AIR doesn't have
a folk sound, but in terms of the spirit and character of the
music, it seemed to me a very good match.
