AIR & Alessandro Baricco
"City Reading"

Throughout their impressive 5-year career, Air have openly embraced new challenges, continually driving themselves to explore the boundaries of their skills as composers. At the end of 2001, following a sold out tour of the U.S., their first ever broadcast TV appearance and the darkly fascinating new album "10,000 Hz. Legend", Air (JB Dunckel and Nicolas Godin), began to consider their next musical adventure. Well, we can now announce the initial details of the next Air recording, slated for release on March 25th. Alessandro Baricco is Italy's most famous contemporary writer, known for his unusual characterizations and lyrical, poetic style. He originally contacted Air in summer 2002 for a live performance in a theater during readings of one of his best selling novels "City". The show premiered last November in Rome's Teatro Valle with such artistic success that both decided to make a record out of it and the result is "City Reading". Air recorded more than one hour of original music mixed by Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, over which Baricco recites his own texts in Italian with his unique voice.

The result is a deep voyage into western stories, underpinned by Air's unique musical know-how, exploring both sentimental and cinematic moods. Air are currently recording their next studio album, hopefully for release in 2003. In the meantime, their fans should be more than excited by this evolutionary step in the life of one of the world's most revered bands.

The translated versions of Alessandro Baricco's written works are available from you favorite online book retailer.

AIR - EVERYBODY HERTZ
The “10,000 Hz. Legend” remixes E.P.

Street Date: 19th FEBRUARY 2002

2001 saw the release of Air’s second, critically acclaimed album “10,000Hz. Legend”. Harder and darker than its predecessor “Moon Safari”, it was the sound of JB Dunckel and Nicolas Godin growing up and taking a few risks along the way.

Following their original “10,000Hz. Legend” idea of a free-form radio station in the desert, Air asked several artists on the same frequency to do a personal version of their tracks. The result is "Everybody Hertz", a ten track E.P. that features top of the range remixes of three tracks from the album and one exclusive new song.

It kicks off with a judicious edit of “Don’t Be Light”, courtesy of Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk. The futuristic Mr. Oizo, The Neptunes (dope as ever), The Hacker (French electro superstar currently enjoying success with Miss Kittin) and Malibu (a.k.a. Roger Manning of the acclaimed Moog Cookbook), all present their own diverse interpretations of the track.

Revered On-U Sound producer Adrian Sherwood was asked by JB to do a cover of “How Does It Make You Feel” in his own inimitable dub reggae style. During the recording, his friend Junior Delgado stopped by and liked what he heard so much he got on the mike to add some soulful vocals of his own. Air’s own edit of “How Does It Make You Feel” also makes an appearance.

“People In The City” is reworked by fellow Parisians Modjo and young French producer Jack Lahana.

The set finishes with an exclusive unreleased track from the 10,000Hz. sessions called “The Way You Look Tonight” which features JB and Nicolas on vocals. To round out this attractively priced E.P. we've also included a video enhancement featuring a live video for "People In The City" recorded live at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles during Air's U.S. tour last summer.

"Everybody Hertz" is also available as a 2x12" vinyl set.
