Often refered to playfully as "The Dark Side Of The Moon Safari", Air's original motion picture score for Sofia Coppola's directorial debut "The Virgin Suicides" is much darker and moodier than previous Air material and has a definite 70's rock feel. The album features 13 instrumental tracks (except for the first song, "Playground Love," which features newcomer Gordon Traxx on vocals), with occasional dialogue from the movie woven into the music for dramatic effect. The movie itself has gathered numerous accolades since its release in April, 2000 and features a stellar cast including Kirsten Dunst, Josh Hartnett, Kathleen Turner and James Woods. Also that year, Air played a one time only show in Los Angeles, where they performed the music to "The Virgin Suicides" in its entirety. A memento of that performance can be found on the Astralwerks rarities collection Rarewerks Volume 2, which features "Dirty Trip" (Live). |
