The exclusive online ticket sale for the Centro-Fly show was an overwhelming success. A huge thanks goes out to all the fans from Astralwerks, Centro-Fly and The Chemical Brothers. If you missed the online sale, you're in luck. Some tickets have been held back -- they'll be made available the night of the show at Centro-Fly.   It Began In Afrika-ka-ka
01.08.01

Since the spring, Tom and Ed Chemical have been road testing some new material in their DJ sets and consequently gave some slates of one of the tracks, "It Began In Afrika" to a few select DJs. Reactions were phenomenal, so a limited run of promos were pressed up as "Electronic Battle Weapon 5" - the latest in their series of limited club cuts - and sent to key DJs up and down the country.

The track has received massive attention, and it's been hammered constantly in the clubs for the last few months. Because of the overwhelming demand for this record, "It Began In Afrika" will now get a commercial release in September.

"It Began In Afrika" is a stomach churning, earth quaking, moody monster of a record...it's Tom & Ed at their creative, chaotic best. The commercial release also features a second track, "Hot Acid Rhythm 1", which does exactly what it says on the packet.

The Chemical Brothers have just announced that they will DJ at this year's Creamfields festival in Liverpool on 25th August.

"It Began In Afrika" will be released through Freestyle Dust/Virgin Records on 10th September 2001.

  Come With Us
16.11.01

2001 passed without much noise from the Chemical Brothers. After 18 months locked in a south London studio, emerging occasionally to test out new tracks on unsuspecting club audiences both here and abroad, Tom and Ed offered up a low-key single, "It Began in Africa". The record was a thunderous tribal techno workout, an obnoxious hurricane of beats and bleeps that entered the top 10 like some kind of demented uninvited guest. Although "Africa" was a precursor to "Come With Us" it gave very little indication of what was to come.

"Come With Us" seems more of a statement of intent than ever, relying less on collaborations and guest appearances and more on warping psychedelic cinemascope music. First single proper, "Star Guitar", comes on like a modernist take on many a bygone Balearic anthem, it's sunshine bleached guitar lines twisting around an insisting, pulsating rhythm track. "Pioneer Skies" starts as a 21st Century take on late sixties British psychedelic sound before ending up sounding like Pete Townsend & Keith Moon shoehorned into Jason Pierce's spacesuit. Elsewhere, "Denmark" is a furious mutant disco workout, while "Hoops" is a glorious melting pot of West Coast harmonies, guitar scales & pulsing electro beats. The album climaxes with "The Test", where Richard Ashcroft stares into the void and rails against a soaring squall of beats and swelling noiseŠthe words and music of men possessed.

At times, "Come With Us" features a sound akin to psychedelic folk, at others it sounds like one of the most futuristic albums ever made; an optimistic, brave new world circumnavigated in just under an hour of music.

"Come With Us" is released through Freestyle Dust/Virgin on 28th January 2002.
