1977-81Performers course studying Composition and Piano at the Royal Academy of Music London, England Awarded Fellowship in composition 1980-81 London Contemporary Dance Theatre School resident student composer GLAA Young Jazz Musician of the year Studied electronic music and studio techniques with Paul Patterson, RAM recording studios. Assisted him in the sound projection of the London Sinfonietta, South Bank. Attended Cardew lectures and classes at RAM 1982 Accepted to study with Mauricie Music and Dance specialist for Strathclyde Regional Council 1984 Scottish Arts council for the study of electronic music techniques 1985-86 Arts council commission for viola and sampler synthesis, "7 Stations". Performed: New Music Group of Scotland Recorded with Hipsway and Midge Ure (including Band Aid world tour) Attended Gulbenkian course for professional composers and choreographers 1988 "7 Stations" choreographed by Jonathan Lunn (London Contemporary Dance Theatre) performed at the Festival Hall, London Tron Theatre Commission, losing Alec - music theatre score directed by Michael Boyd Formed Performance - a music theatre dance group featuring the latest developments in electronic music. (Arts Council funded) Tron Theatre Commission, "Crow" (Ted Hughes) music theatre score (Paper Boat Award), Mayfast Glasgow Moscow visit for the production of "Crow" in Russia Third Eye Centre Commission "String Quartet" - a music theatre work for string quartet and video, Glasgow Warner Brothers recording contract with the "Big Dish." Co-wrote "Satellites" 1989-92 Scottish Chamber Orchestra/Traverse commission a chamber opera 1991-92 BBC 2 commission theme music for the drama series "Encounters" written by John Clifford Interscope/Atlantic recording contract based in Los Angeles. Songs co-written with playwright Peter Arnott. Produced in collaboration with Nellee Hooper, Dave Stewart and Paul O'Duffy at A&M, Hollywood and Mayfair, London. 1993 Chamber Opera performed at the international Edinburgh Festival (Scottish Chamber Orchestra) STV music commission, generic music for 93/94 "Hope" (Interscope/Atlantic) released in America Tron Theatre Commission "Macbeth" music theatre score, (Paper Boat Award), directed by Michael Boyd.
1994 Film commission STV "Tartan Shorts." Overall winner, premiered GFT, directed by Peter Mullen. Film commission "Daddy's Gone, " BBC TV. Premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Royal Shakespeare Company commission, music score for "The Broken Heart" directed by Michael Boyd, Barbican, London. Awarded composers Bursary for the study of Indian music (Scottish Arts Council) Wrote the music for C4 short "Fridge" by Capaldi Composed and arranged songs on Massive Attack's "Protection" album, including "Sly" and Weather Storm" 1995 Composed and conducted strings for Madonna's "Bedtime Stories" album, U2's "Hold Me, Kiss Me..." single, Massive Attack and Maddona's "I Want You" on the "Marvin Gaye" tribute album, Tina Turner's "Wildest Dreams" album nad the "Goldeneye" single Wrote orchestral piece for Future Sound of London's "Lifeforms" album 1996 Commissioned to write orchestral piece for the Edinburgh Festival 1996 Completed music for 26 part Carlton TV series "London Bridge" Collaborated with Nellee Hooper on score for Fox feature film version of "Romeo + Juliet" |
