Freaky Chakra

spaceSan Francisco's Freaky Chakra (aka Daum Bentley) reenters the fold with the Year 2000 EP, a teaser for Blacklight Fantasy, the forthcoming solo follow-up to his stellar debut, Lowdown Motivator. Released in 1995, Lowdown Motivator carved out its own abstract groove with its aesthetic of fresh, tripped-out Techno with tracks like "Peace Fixation" and the underground classic "Halucifuge" and down-beat ambient funk of "Budded On Earth To Bloom In Heaven" and "Goodbye."

spaceOne of the first American artists signed to Astralwerks back in 1994, Freaky Chakra's first live shows came about through his musical teaming with longtime friend Single Cell Orchestra (Miguel Fierro), becoming a much sought-after live show nationwide. Freaky Chakra's reputation has grown via both his pairing with Single Cell Orchestra and as a solo performer propelled by the dynamic and organic live sets. Astralwerks captured the excitement of their musical 'head-to-head' on the self-titled Freaky Chakra Vs. Single Cell Orchestra album. The duo has since opted to focus on their own projects.

spaceLiterally reminding you that the millenium is just around the corner, Freaky Chakra meets the underground and beyond with the Year 2000 EP and its three dancefloor-ready tracks: an eerie, warbling deep house/new wave-inspired Techno jam ("Year 2000"), a pounding Sci-Fi epic ("Dreams"), and a smooth Tech/House groover ("Platform") that will challenge and satisfy both DJ's and fans. The EP also features an exclusive Love From San Francisco remix of "Year 2000" by Charles Webster (aka Presence and DJ Profile), an up-and-coming UK producer at the forefront of the UK tech/house sound and founder of the Remote and seminal Love From San Francisco labels.

spaceOriginally conceived as a skewed dancefloor landscape, Blacklight Fantasy incorporates elements of dark chunky electro, abstract minimal techno, and quirky four-to-the-floor mutations threaded through an intoxicating psychedelic density and atmosphere. Blacklight Fantasy is released on Astralwerks April 21st.

spaceLook for a preview on Freaky's second single, "Downspace," to be released in early March which features a remix by Bass Kittens (aka former Hardkiss Family engineer and Hardkiss recording artist Jon Drukman). A CD package combining the "Year 2000" and "Downspace" singles, their remixes, and the track "Platform" will be released in the UK and Europe.
