“Sort of like King Crimson on 10 doses of acid…everything from chants to jazz to folk to almost punk to Eno-esque music, with lyrics tending to be about invisible and/or green flying teapots, or some such thing. Truly a unique experience.’ - The Ectophiles’ Guide

Gong are a bongfull of wild, gonzoid, hippy, trippy, jazzy space rock whose fascinating out-there bizareness shares a special kinship with the likes of Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart.

Formed by ex-Soft Machine member Daevid Allen, Gong became a collective of musicians who it was rumored only ever recorded during the phases of the full moon and who over the years had more personnel changes than a fast food restaurant. In a recent interview, Daevid Allen explained:“All of my ideas for change in Gong came from visions which came through psychically to me/us from the actual Gong planet."Of Gong’s nearly 40 albums, Angel’s Egg and You, recorded in the mid-‘70s for Richard Branson’s then fledging Caroline Records label, are considered highpoint’s of the band’s career as well classics of ‘70s progressive rock.

Now these two albums have been fully remastered from the original master tapes and include previously unreleased bonus tracks and expanded, illustrated booklets.

GONG - YOU
Release date : 02/22/05

Atmospheric, inscrutable, and unhinged, You continues where Angel’s Egg left off, blasting off into the stratospheric realms of acid-induced space rock (the entire band allegedly performed the album while under the influence!). Guitar wizard Steve Hillage takes a more prominent role on epic, jazz-oriented tunes like the ten minute plus “Isle Of Everywhere” and the furious “Master Builder.”

“An even more stylish offering…”

GONG - ANGELS’ EGG
Release date : 02/22/05

Angel's Egg is the rock equivalent of a mad tea party, with lyrics involving Pothead Pixies, Octave Doctors and Radio Gnomes; all set to Pierre Moerlen's tight and sophisticated drumming, Didier Malherbe's multicoloured sax and flute leads, Steve Hillage's cosmic guitar soloing, and Daveid Allen's amusing vocals and glissando guitar layers.

“What a fantastic album…[a] masterpiece…[a] perfect mélange of playfulness, space jazz, and acid melodies …the greatest distillation of the Gong sound. Essential.”
