est known as the main guitarist for Genesis from 1971 to 1977(spanning both the Peter Gabriel years and the early part of the Phil Collins era), Steve Hackett has long been regarded as one of the leading progressive rock guitarists of his generation. In the ‘80s he joined Yes guitarist Steve Howe to form the platinum album selling super group GTR. Hackett continues to have a large following and tours regularly (he just recently toured the US in September and October). Now Steve Hackett’s first four solo albums are being reissued with expanded 12-page booklets that include newly researched and written liner notes as well as previously unreleased bonus tracks (the only exception being “Hercules Unchained” which appeared as a B-side to “The Show” single in 1989). One of the most interesting bonus tracks is “Shadow Of The Hierophant” recorded during the Voyage Of The Acolyte sessions, featuring some fantastic drumming from Phil Collins. Steve Hackett has been trying to track it down for many years and had almost given up on ever finding it until he just recently discovered it on a 1/4” reel to reel tape while exploring his Dad's shed!

Voyage Of The Acolyte (originally released 1975)

The Voyage Of The Acolyte was recorded while Hackett was still a member of Genesis. Both Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford of Genesis make guest appearances, leading both fans and music critics to liken The Voyage Of The Acolyte as what Genesis’ follow-up to Selling England By The Pound would have sounded like had Peter Gabriel not taken the band in a different direction for The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

The Voyage Of The Acolyte is tremendous…a textbook ideal of what progressive rock should sound like – lush, complex, layered, and at time surprising.” – Record Collector

Please Don't Touch (originally released 1978)

“When Steve Hackett left Genesis in 1977, many fans interpreted his exodus as the final death knell for the band’s musical integrity,” commented Guitar Player magazine. Please Don’t Touch was Hackett’s first solo album after leaving Genesis. The album features many of Hackett’s superstar friends including Steve Walsh and Phil Ehart of Kansas as well as Richie Havens and Randy Crawford (best known for the funky soul classic “Street Life”).
