French electro-pop starlet Yelle took the US by storm in 2008 with her debut album "Pop-Up", breaking down cultural barriers with her flashy, colorful mix of retro-fashion, irresistible melodies and spunky electro-booty beats. Variously dubbed “the French MIA” or “the French Lily Allen”, Yelle and her two musical accomplices, producer/drummer Grand Marnier and programmer/beatmaker Tepr, firmly established their appeal early in the year when their online buzz was enough to draw the attention of programmers at MTV. They finished out the year by selling out shows in all major markets and became the first French-language artists to perform on national TV since Les Nubians in 1999.
